Henri-Lloyd revolutionised wet weather gear in the 60s by engineering garments from waterproof Bri-Nylon and hand-taping jacket seams. The focus was on creating light, flexible waterproof shell jackets that protected explorers from the seas to the mountains from the harshest of elements. Building on our reputation for quality, innovation and style, the Consort jacket was born, combining performance with protection and warmth for colder, wetter conditions, making it suitable for everyday life as well as on the water.

The legendary Sir Francis Chichester chose the Consort jacket for his historic solo circumnavigation of the globe via the clipper route in 1966-67. Despite the rifle green colour being hard to spot at sea, Chichester’s pragmatic nature prevailed. When we questioned his colour choice, Chichester famously responded, “Well, who would be there to see me if I did fall in?”

The Consort's legacy was further cemented when Sir Robin Knox-Johnston wore it during his ground-breaking non-stop solo circumnavigation of the globe in 1969, making the Consort jacket an icon of the times, and one that has been highly revered every since.
